As the programmer and coordinator of nachwuchstanz bern—a young dancer development program for 12 to 18-year-olds—I invited Emma Murray to develop a tailored workshop program for our dancers. Drawing on her rich pedagogical background and training in intimacy coaching, Emma created a curriculum centered on agency, boundaries, and consent.
We initiated this project as a proactive measure to empower our young dancers and raise awareness. Working together under a "teaching as research" framework, we created a dedicated space for participants to verbalize and develop these vital ideas. Through applied exercises, the dancers practiced communicating boundaries and actively declaring and qualifying consent. We have since dubbed this initiative the "ABC Workshops."
I deeply appreciate Emma’s openness and her willingness to explore these sensitive possibilities with this crucial age group. This is not a one-off effort. Our aim is to fully integrate these findings into our regular studio practice and share them with visiting guest teachers. We look forward to welcoming Emma back on a regular basis to work with our upcoming cohorts.

"Die Arbeit mit Désirée als IC war so schön und vom ersten Moment an so herzlich und professionell. Bei unserem Projekt ging es viel um Berührungen und wie wir durch diese eine Geschichte erzählen können. Désirée hat uns so geduldig durch jede Szene geführt und uns ein Gefühl von Spielfreude und gleichzeitig eine unglaubliche Sicherheit gegeben, da wir genau wussten, wo die Grenzen sind.
Die Szenen wurden wie ein Tanz, in dem wir uns künstlerisch ausleben durften, aber die Schritte für jeden klar waren. Ich find die Arbeit der IC, gerade für mich als Schauspieler, sehr wichtig und versichere, dass alle Schauspielenden von so tollen Intimitätskoordinatorinnen nur profitieren können.

Emma gave a series of IC workshops during the first days of rehearsals for the creation of the dance production "YES/NO." The workshops proved doubly useful. On the one hand they provided us with tools and language to work together more sensitively as a team. On the other hand, some of the exercises Emma proposed proved quite inspiring for the creation of the new production. We as a team discovered that clear communication about the dancers' individual boundaries could at times give them the freedom to be more daring and creative. Emma was highly attuned to the uncertainty and fluidity involved in the creation of a contemporary dance production, and was able to quickly adapt her material to our ever-evolving needs.

We received very positive feedback from the audience for Désirée’s choreographed scenes in particular, pointing out the through her work established tension of these scenes, while the actors felt safe in their movements at the same time. ”
